JEWS IN THE NATIONAL LIBERATION WAR – THE JEWISH WOMEN FROM SKOPJE


The Skopje Jews made a huge contribution and helped the National Liberation War in various ways. These brave women were involved from the very beginning of the resistance movement, risked their lives, and were later deported and killed in Treblinka. Without their commitment, neither struggle nor freedom would be possible. Let’s never forget them!

Rashela Adizhes, a housewife from Skopje, born in 1923. She has been with in the National Liberation War since 1941 and admitted to SKOJ in 1942. She collected public aid, clothing and footwear for the National Liberation War, and in March 1943 she was deported to Treblinka, where she was murdered. Ruzha Angjel, a housewife from Skopje, born in 1920. She has been with the National Liberation War since 1942. She was collecting aid for the National Liberation War, and illegal party meetings were held in her apartment. In March 1943 she was deported and killed in Treblinka. Duka Hason, tailor from Skopje, born in 1923. She joined the National Liberation War in 1941 and was admitted to SKOJ that same year. Illegal party meetings were held in her apartment and a tailoring workshop was organized for producing clothing for the partisans. She was active among the Jewish youth in order to involve them in the Resistance. In March 1943 she was deported and killed in Treblinka. Luiza Kamhi, a carpet worker from Skopje, born in 1920. Until the war, she actively participated in the progressive movement. He has been in the National Liberation War from the very beginning, was collecting aid, distributed leaflets, acted politically among women and motivated them to join the anti-fascist front. In March 1943 she was deported and killed in Treblinka. Meri Koen, a worker from Skopje, born in 1924. She has been in the National Liberation War since 1941 and in 1942 she was admitted to SKOJ. She was active among the Jewish youth for their involvement in the anti-fascist front. She collected public aid for the National Liberation War. Meri Koen was deported and killed in Treblinka in March 1943. Bojana Ruben, a student from Skopje, born in 1924. During her gymnasium years she joined the progressive youth movement and distinguished herself by spreading the Marxist ideology among the youth. She has been in the National Liberation War since 1941 and in 1942 she became a member of SKOJ. She collected public aid for the National Liberation War. Deported and killed in Treblinka. Bela Sason, a clerk from Skopje, born in 1917. She has been in the National Liberation War since the beginning of the uprising. She was also a member of SKOJ and head of the assets of Jewish women who collected aid for the National Liberation War. The illegals were hiding in her apartment. Bela Sason was deported and killed in Treblinka. Rashela Sason, a worker from Skopje, born in 1923. She has been in the National Liberation War since the beginning of the uprising and in 1942 was admitted to SKOJ. Meetings of the ideological group were held in her apartment. She participated in collecting aid for the National Liberation War. In March 1943 she was deported and killed in Treblinka. Rebeka Sason, a student from Skopje, born in 1924. She joined the progressive movement during the gymnasium and since 1942 she has been a member of SKOJ. She carried out the tasks set by the SKOJ organization with discipline. Rebecca was deported and killed in Treblinka. Sara Servila, a housewife from Skopje, born in 1910. She has been with the National Liberation War since 1941. She was active among the Jewish women in order to involve them in the National Liberation War. Sarah was raising aid for the National Liberation War. She was arrested by the Bulgarian occupier in 1942 but was released due to lack of evidence. Sara Servila was deported and killed in Treblinka in 1943. Sarah Sion, tailor from Skopje, born in 1924. She has been in the National Liberation War since the beginning of the uprising and in 1942 she was admitted to SKOJ. She organized the making of uniforms for the partisans in her home and collected aid for the National Liberation War. In March 1943, she was deported to Treblinka, where she was killed. Duka Vajnshtajn, a tailor from Skopje, born in 1922. She has been in the National Liberation War since 1941 and in the same year she was admitted to SKOJ. She took part in many illegal actions of the SKOJ organization in Skopje. Illegal party meetings were held in her apartment and she was also sewing uniforms for the partisans. In March 1943, she was deported and killed in Treblinka.
